Supartz & F.A.Q’s

by Vlad Nucinovisch

Knee osteoarthritis can have a significant impact on your quality of life. Dr. Nusinovich offers patients the most advanced treatment techniques for arthritis pain, including Supartz injections, designed specifically for treatment of knee osteoarthritis.

F.A.Q.

What is Supartz?

Supartz is a joint fluid replacement product that's used to treat osteoarthritis in the knee joint, relieving pain and improving mobility. It's injected into your knee joint during a simple in-office procedure that takes only a few moments to perform.

How is the Supartz procedure performed?

The procedure typically involves three steps: First, a local anesthetic may be used to numb your knee to avoid any discomfort that can occur when the product is injected into the joint. Second, the fluid in your knee is extracted to ensure plenty of space for the Supartz product. And finally, Supartz is injected into the joint space in your knee where it will provide a natural, lubricating cushion designed to support the joint's motion. Following the procedure, you may need to avoid strenuous physical activity for a few days. Most patients experience no to little discomfort after their procedures, and any discomfort that does occur can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications.

How many injections will I need?

Most patients benefit from a series of three to five injections. Dr. Nusinovich will be able to determine the number of injections you'll need for relief of your symptoms.

How does Supartz compare to taking pain medication for my arthritis?

Pain medication only serves to help decrease the symptoms you're experiencing as a result of your knee arthritis, and does nothing to help protect the joint or correct the problem. Supartz is injected directly into the joint space where the problem exists, and it's designed to replace the knee's natural fluid to support healthy joint function. Plus, Supartz does not have the side effects that often go hand-in-hand with chronic use of both prescription and over-the-counter pain medications.
